In 2004, Maserati offered a sportier evolution of the 4200 coupe, which would take the name Gransport coupe, recalling the name given to the A6 spider Frua.

The line designed by Giugiaro is adorned with more pronounced side skirts, adopts specific 19-inch rims, a radiator grille and different spoilers. The interior receives a sportier treatment for the seats, pedals and steering wheel.

On the mechanical side, the 4.2l V8 is pushed to 401 hp, the gearbox ratios are changed as well as the suspension setting and mass balance are improved.
